Chiefs re-sign eight players
With their season over, the Kansas City Chiefs are looking forward to the 2011 season.
The team re-signed the following practice squad players to future contracts: WR Jeremy Horne; TE Cody Slate; G Darryl Harris; DL Bobby Greenwood; LB Dion Gales; LB Pierre Walters; LB Micah Johnson; and LB Justin Cole all signed deals for next season.
Cole (6-3, 242) entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Kansas City in 2010 and spent the first 11 games of the season on the 53-man roster. He also enjoyed a five-week stint on the practice squad. The Chino Hills, California native played in 49 games (42 starts) at San Jose St. University.
Gales (6-5, 310) spent all 16 games on the Chiefs practice squad in 2010 after playing in three games with Kansas City in 2009. The New Orleans, Louisiana native saw action in 25 games (17 starts) at Troy University.
Greenwood (6-5, 278) spent the entire season on the practice squad for the second consecutive year after entering the NFL as a rookie free agent with Kansas City in 2009. He appeared in 51 games (22 starts) at the University of Alabama.
Harris (6-4, 300) was on the Chiefs practice squad for the entire 2010 season. The Clarksdale, Mississippi native appeared in one game with Kansas City in 2009 after entering the NFL as a rookie free agent with the club. Harris saw action in 35 games (22 starts) at the University of Mississippi.
Horne (6-2, 193) played in three contests with the Chiefs in 2010 and spent the final 10 games on the team’s practice squad. He entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the club this season. The Albany, New York native saw duty in 36 games (20 starts) at the University of Massachusetts.
Johnson (6-2, 258) spent four weeks on the practice squad with Kansas City and played in one contest with Miami in 2010. The Fort Campbell, Kentucky native played in 48 games (25 starts) at the University of Kentucky.
Slate (6-4, 229) was on the Chiefs practice squad for the postseason after originally entering the NFL as a rookie free agent with Kansas City in 2010. The Chipley, Florida native played in 44 games (32 starts) at Marshall University.
Walters (6-5, 269) spent all 16 games on the club’s practice squad this season after playing in three games with the Chiefs in 2009. The Maywood, Illinois product entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Chiefs after playing in 49 games (35 starts) at Eastern Illinois University.
