The Philadelphia Eagles have claimed CB Isaiah Trufant off waivers from the New York Jets, a source confirmed.

Trufant, who was waived by the Jets on Jan. 22, was signed off the Jets practice squad on Dec. 30. Because the waiver period is 10 days in the playoffs, not 24 hours, Trufant wasn’t claimed until this Tuesday (Feb. 1).

According to article 18.1 B-5 of the NFL’s constitution and bylaws, the assignment or termination of any player will be deferred until the first business days after the Super Bowl game, which in this case is on Monday.

A source said that had the Eagles not claimed him, Trufant likely would have cleared waivers and been signed to a future contract by the Jets. Trufant, the younger brother of Seattle Seahawks CB Marcus Trufant, played in the UFL for the majority of the last two seasons.

No other teams put in a waiver claim for Trufant, who turned 28 a few months ago.
