Rising wide receiver participates in pro day workout
WR Edmond Gates (Abilene Christian) participated in his school’s pro day on Monday.
Gates (6-feet, 189 pounds), who tied Ricardo Lockette for the fastest 40-yard dash time for any wide receiver during February’s NFL Scouting Combine at 4.37 seconds, participated in the broad jump, three-cone drill and short shuttle at his pro day.
Gates’ broad jump of 11 feet, 2 inches is a good improvement from his solid jumps of 10-10 and 10-11 at the Combine. To give you an idea of how good his broad jump was at his pro day, WR Julio Jones (Alabama) had the best broad jump (11-3) of any player at the Combine.
Gates, who is projected by NFL Draft Scout to be drafted in the third round of April’s NFL Draft, already has begun to line up team visits, a source confirmed.
The speedy wide receiver is expected to visit the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings among the various teams showing interest in him. The Cleveland Browns also are expected to work him out.
