The San Diego Chargers have signed P Ricky Schmitt to a future contract. A source confirmed he signed his deal on Wednesday. Schmitt will stay on the reserve/future list until after the Super Bowl.
Schmitt does have a history with the Chargers.
He worked out for the team twice during the regular season. The Chargers also worked him out during the 2009 season. But the left-footed punter also worked out for the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers during the regular season. The Philadelphia Eagles worked out the left-footed punter last week.
Schmitt, 25, has spent time on the practice squad, offseason rosters or regular-season rosters of five other teams.
