Source: Eagles to work out fast linebacker
ILB Mario Harvey (Marshall), who put up one of the best 40-yard dash times for a player at his position in recent memory during his pro day workout, is expected to work out for the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday, a source confirmed.
Because of his size, Harvey (5-11, 250) is projected to play inside or middle linebacker, but he has lined up on the outside in nickel situations in college.
Because he ran a between 4.39-4.46 in the forty during his pro day workout, he’s received more attention than expected from teams.
He lined up visits with the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars and Arizona Cardinals.
Teams likely will have to go back to watching his game tape to see if his timed speed lines up well with his field speed. If it does, it’s possible that he could play in either a 3-4 or 4-3 defensive scheme at the NFL level.
Harvey, who also has received interest from the Baltimore Ravens, had a fifth to six round grade from personnel evaluators, but his 40-time could make teams reevaluate his value.
The Eagles are very light on depth at all three linebacker spots in their 4-3 defensive scheme.
