Source: Highly regarded passer to work out for Colts
QB Andy Dalton (TCU) has been one of the fastest moving players up draft boards in recent weeks. The reasons stem from his solid performances during the NFL Scouting Combine and his pro day. It was thought that after Senior Bowl week he would be selected in the third round. However, sources believe he’ll go within the first 40 selections overall in April’s NFL draft.
As noted previously, he has plenty of workouts and visits scheduled. But one workout that’s new to the list is quite interesting.
A source confirmed the right-handed passer is scheduled to work out for the Indianapolis Colts before the draft.
Starting QB Peyton Manning recently turned 35, but based on his outstanding durability, he’ll probably play into his 40s. So why work out Dalton when the Colts picked QB Curtis Painter in the sixth round of the 2009 draft?
The Colts could be looking to upgrade over Painter, who technically is the only quarterback under contract for next season. It’s widely expected that Manning will work out a long-term deal after the new CBA is reached which will make him the highest-paid player in the NFL.
