Sources: Panthers' Rivera considers offensive coach
New Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera is starting the process of putting together his coaching staff. Rivera said during his introductory press conference Tuesday that he had an idea of the coaches he wanted to interview.
Sources told FOXSports.com that former Canadian Football League assistant coach and head coach Mike Kelly is on Rivera’s list of possible assistant coach hires. It’s believed that Kelly is being considered for a job as an assistant on the offensive side of the ball.
Kelly and Rivera know each other from their days together with the Philadelphia Eagles. Rivera was a linebackers coach for the team (1999-2003). Kelly was a scout for the team (2001) and an offensive assistant/quality control coach (2002).
In addition, the Charlotte Observer reported the Panthers received permission to interview San Diego Chargers tight ends coach/assistant head coach Rob Chudzinski for the offensive coordinator position.
