Cowboys officially sign kicker
As noted previously, the Dallas Cowboys signed K Kris Brown. The team announced the move Friday once the contract was signed. To take his place on the 53-man roster, the team placed backup ILB Leon Williams (hamstring) on injured reserve. Williams suffered the injury against the host Arizona Cardinals in last week’s game after seeing action in 11 games this season where he recorded six tackles and added nine tackles on special teams and a fumble recovery.
Brown was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh-round (228th overall) of the 1999 NFL Draft out of the University of Nebraska. He played three seasons (1999-02) with the Steelers before signing with the Houston Texans on Mar. 25, 2002 where he played eight years before being released on Sept. 8, 2010. Brown most recently played for the San Diego Chargers, signing with the club on Oct. 20, but was waived Nov. 23.
For his career, Brown has played in 179 games where he has made 256-of-331 (77.3%) field goals and recorded 86 touchbacks on 792 kickoffs.
Brown, according to various reports, signed a contract which will take him through next season, so he could push struggling K David Buehler for a job.
In other news, the Cowboys signed undrafted rookie WR Jeff Moturi this week.
