Dolphins cut veteran wide receiver
The Miami Dolphins apparently saw enough of Kevin Curtis to feel that he couldn’t help them in the future. The Dolphins waived him just two weeks after signing him to a contract. A source confirmed the transaction was turned into the NFL's personnel office on Tuesday afternoon.
Curtis, who signed with the team on Dec. 14, appeared in one game and caught just one pass. However, Curtis saw a decent amount of snaps in the first game he played in against the Buffalo Bills.
In addition, the team waived backup C Eric Ghiaciuc and signed OT Allen Barbre and LB Mike Rivera, who was signed from the Green Bay Packers practice squad.
Barbre was originally a fourth-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in the 2007 NFL Draft (119th overall). He started the first seven games at right tackle during the 2009 season for the Packers and over three seasons appeared in 25 games before being placed on injured reserve on Sept. 4 and released two days later. The versatile lineman was later signed by the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 28 and appeared in three games prior to being waived on Nov. 23.
A four-year starter at Missouri Southern St. University, he started 36 of 38 career games for the Lions and was a consensus Division II All-American first-team selection at tackle as a senior.
Rivera originally was signed as an undrafted college free agent by the Chicago Bears on Apr. 26, 2009 and was with the team during the preseason before being waived on Sept. 5, 2009. He was signed by the Tennessee Titans and spent the entire 2009 season on their practice squad, but was waived on Aug. 31.
A three-year starter at the University of Kansas, Rivera appeared in 51 games with 36 starts and finished his college career with 300 tackles, including 26 for loss and 6.5 sacks. Born on January 10, 1986, Rivera attended Shawnee Mission NW High School in Shawnee Mission, Kan.
