Source: Eagles work out another top quarterback
The Philadelphia Eagles seemingly don’t have the need to add any more quarterbacks to their roster, but that hasn’t stopped them from working them out in recent weeks.
The team worked out former TCU QB Andy Dalton last week, a source confirmed. The Eagles also recently worked out strong-armed former Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick. Both signal callers are expected to go off the board within the first 40 selections overall.
Dalton, who had a strong NFL Scouting Combine throwing session and also threw quite well during his pro day workout, is expected to work out for or visit with more than 12 teams before the NFL draft begins April 28.
The Eagles have two quarterbacks already under contract for next season (Kevin Kolb and Mike Kafka). And veteran QB Michael Vick, who is scheduled to become a free agent, had the “exclusive” franchise tag placed on him, so he’ll be with the team for at least one more season.
The only plausible explanation for the Eagles looking at quarterbacks is if they trade Kolb, their interest in looking at a developmental quarterback could increase. The Eagles are still very high on Kafka, but whether they think he could develop into a starter remains to be seen.
