The story of college basketball's golden era cannot be told without the Georgetown Hoyas. The sport reached all-time highs in popularity in the 1980s thanks to Hoya Paranoia, John Thompson Jr.'s towel, and the iconic battles in the Big East Conference.

Basketball fans everywhere owe a debt of gratitude to the program that has provided so much to the sport. While the heyday of Hoya Paranoia has long passed, Georgetown remains a fixture in the modern basketball culture.

It does not hurt that Georgetown's basketball team is always suited up in the best uniforms and sneakers Jordan Brand has to offer. On Wednesday afternoon, the Hoyas' social media team shared snapshots of their latest shipment of Air Jordan sneakers. Check out their Instagram post below for a detailed look.

This is the first time that the sneaker community and basketball world has seen the Air Jordan 23 'Georgetown Hoyas' colorway. The player-exclusive colorway sports a grey upper with the Georgetown logos on both sides and navy inner lining with "Hoya" and "Saxa" embroidered on the tongues.

The model was launched in January 2008 and is part of the later catalog of Air Jordan sneakers that does not enjoy regular retro release treatment. But the timeliness and cool factor are not lost on the young student-athletes who are overjoyed in the pictures.

Seeing the Hoyas wear Jumpman gear is still weird for some hoops old enough to remember the 1982 NCAA Championship Game featuring Patrick Ewing and Michael Jordan. However, no one can deny that the partnership has been beneficial for both parties and fans.

Jordan Brand has released other Air Jordan models in Georgetown-inspired colorways, but this will not be one of them. The silver lining is that online shoppers can check out all of the Georgetown apparel available on the Nike website.
