Indiana point guard Xavier Johnson will be sidelined indefinitely after undergoing surgery on Wednesday to repair his broken right foot.

The school said it hopes Johnson can return prior to the completion of the 2022-23 season.

Meanwhile, Johnson, who wears uniform No. 0, indicated he is going to embrace the challenge.

"This is going to bring the best version out of me," Johnson said on his Twitter account. "Thanking everyone for their support. 0 gone be back on the court soon."

Johnson injured the foot with 9:13 left in the first half in Saturday's 84-62 road loss to then-No. 8 Kansas. He was sporting a boot and on crutches when he returned to the bench in the second half.

Johnson is averaging 9.9 points and a team-leading 4.9 assists in 11 games for the No. 18 Hoosiers (9-3, 1-1 Big Ten). He is shooting 41.5 percent from the field, including 37 percent (10 of 27) from 3-point range.

Johnson is in his second season at Indiana after playing three seasons at Pittsburgh. He has career averages of 13.0 points and 5.0 assists in 129 college games (126 starts).

The Hoosiers host Kennesaw State on Friday.
