Jaedon LeDee keeps San Diego State's national championship hopes alive

San Diego State escaped the jaws of defeat thanks to a record-setting performance from senior forward Jaedon LeDee

In a 69-65 victory against the UAB Blazers in the first round of March Madness, LeDee had 32 points, the most in an NCAA Tournament game in program history. He also had eight rebounds and went 11-of-18 from the field.

LeDee might be the most improved player in the country. Following stints at Ohio State and TCU, he averaged 7.9 points per game in his first season with the Aztecs and started in one game. This season, however, he's averaged a career-high 21.1 points per game, won Mountian West Conference Player of the Year and was recently named a Wooden Award finalist, given to the best player in college basketball.

"I feel like everybody's plan, everybody's journey and destiny, is different. That just happened to be mine and what I felt like I needed to do," LeDee recently told KNSD-TV in San Diego. "Anybody can take another year and get better. I feel like that's always a good plan."

It's not clear if LeDee will make it to the NBA. According to Tankathon, he will go undrafted. Still, the 6-foot-9, 240-pounder could raise his stock with more dominant performances throughout the tournament.

Last season, San Diego State made its first national championship appearance in program history, losing to UConn 76-59. If LeDee continues to excel, he gives the fifth-seeded Aztecs a strong chance to return to the title game. They will face Auburn or Yale on Sunday.
