Freshman Edition: Top Transfer Candidates for Texas A&M After Jimbo Fisher Firing
USA TODAY Sports

By JC Nevils

After a week of Jimbo Fisher being fired, even more names are emerging to enter the portal. A&M has one of the most talented rosters, with many players who could get more playing time at other schools. Here are five more players to watch, this time all true-freshman.

1. RB Rueben Owens

El Campo, TX

Coming out of high school Owens was the premier rusher in all of the nation coming into College Station. I had him as one of my breakout freshmen at the beginning of the season, but it just hasn’t materialized. While he has gotten more carries recently, being the lead back for the Abilene Christian game, he should have been given more touches earlier.

Owens only has 88 carries on the season rushing for 338 yards and three scores. I’m not sure he is too happy about that. While he is a Texas kid at heart, I would keep an eye on this elite talent.

2. CB Bravion Rogers

La Grange, TX

The 2023 Under Armour All-American came in as one of the best corners in the country. While that may be true, he has only seen action in only five games amassing one tackle and pass breakup for the entire season. While he may redshirt and stay home, he is a prime candidate to look elsewhere.

3. WR Raymond Cottrell

Milton, FL

This one is the easiest as of this weekend. Unlike the others, it has already been confirmed that Cottrell has entered his name in the portal. He was a big-time prospect out of the Sunshine State, and I fully expect him to look for someplace closer to home.

4. WR Micah Tease

Tulsa, OK

The speedster from Oklahoma was another composite four-star recruit for the Aggies. I will say the WR room was very crowded, which held Tease to six appearances on special teams.

With that being said, Tease has major talent and might be looking towards back home to someplace like Oklahoma? It’s not hard to see why, and they seem to fit his style of play very well. Oklahoma State has also played well this year, so I’d definitely keep a lookout on him.

5. QB Marcel Reed

Nashville, TN

The Mr. Football in Tennessee, Reed was a do-it-all player for Montgomery Bell Academy. This season though he has only seen action in the two games, and that is with multiple quarterbacks getting a chance to start.

Up until the early signing period, Reed was an Ole Miss commit, but he ultimately flipped to the Aggies on December 19th. He has surreal talent, and if he chooses to leave he will not be short on suitors for his services.
