The Auburn Tigers lost the Iron Bowl in one of the most painful ways possible as the Crimson Tide scored a touchdown on 4th and 31 to take the lead and win the football game.

Auburn corner DJ James was in coverage on this play where Jalen Milroe found Isaiah Bond in the corner of the endzone to win this game.

Of course, after this play, James was upset, so Coach Hugh Freeze was there to console him after the game.

Coach Freeze had this to say about the interaction, " I wish I had the words for him, I tried hard. I sat with him at his locker for a while, he and Koy (Moore). Texted with him yesterday, and it’s tough. This world can be brutal, I get it on coaches, they’re going to be brutal on me and every decision I make good or bad, and everyone’s got the answer and what they would do, I get that for coaches. You hate to see it when young men that are playing a game get attacked, I hate that. I think those people are - well, I think those people need to get a life and get a perspective. No one hurt more than Koy and DJ (James). In the scheme that we were in in that play - I know DJ will get all of the criticism but - truthfully there should have been someone else standing there with him to help also. He’s feeling the weight of it, the words at his locker were just ‘coach, I let you down. I let you down.’ And he felt that because of not only that play, but the one before half, when we were up 14-10 and he didn’t get the call, gave them a long TD pass there, so he felt the weight of the world on him, I just told him we’ll get through it, we love you, we’ll get through it together, and somehow in time if handled right, it makes us stronger."

There is no way for us to understand how James felt after this game, but he was a big reason why Auburn was in this ball game from the start.

You hate to see this for James, as he is Auburn's best corner, but he has been incredible for the Tiger and has a big NFL career ahead.

It's great to hear about the incredible connection Coach Freeze has with his players and that through thick and thin, he will always have their backs.
