Michigan to hire Vanderbilt's Jesse Minter as new defensive coordinator?

The Michigan Wolverines are hiring Vanderbilt defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to the same role on Jim Harbaugh's staff, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel and Chris Low.

Minter, 38, spent just one season with Vanderbilt after working under John Harbaugh as a defensive assistant with the Baltimore Ravens for four seasons. He'll replace Mike Macdonald who also made a Harbaugh brother swap when he left Michigan to become the defensive coordinator of the Ravens.

At Michigan, Minter will inherit a defense that is much more talented than the one he leaves at Vanderbilt. While the latter allowed 35.8 points per game in 2021, the Wolverines defense allowed just 17.4 en route to a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Michigan will, however, have to replace several defensive stars. Among them is the potential top pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, as well as linebacker David Ojabo and safety Daxton Hill.

The Wolverines are also on the hunt for a new offensive coordinator after Josh Gattis left the position to join Mario Cristobal's staff at Miami.
