The Pitt football program had some movement on its roster Monday as two players entered their names into the transfer portal.

It was redshirt freshman wide receiver Israel Polk (Richmond, California) first, and redshirt junior Cole Mitchell followed him into the portal not long after.

Mitchell (a 6-foot-5, 250-pound tight end out of Frederick, Maryland) arrived at Pitt in 2021 and after redshirting in his first season, he did not get on the playing field the next two seasons with the Panthers. With Pitt needing to reduce their roster to the limit of 85 scholarship players, it’s a move that many expected would happen.

Mitchell signed with Pitt after impressing the coaching staff as a tight end during a Rising Stars Camp. In high school, Mitchell made his name as a defensive end, named the Frederick News-Post Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 after recording 47 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and seven sacks in just five games.

Following this news, Pitt’s current tight ends depth chart goes: Gavin Bartholomew, Jake Overman, Jake Renda and freshman Malachi Thomas (Logansville, Georgia).
