Tennessee Vols transfer linebacker Elijah Herring has another visit lined up

Tennessee Vols transfer linebacker Elijah Herring is still in the process of finding a new home in college football after entering the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month. 

Herring, who led the Vols in tackles last season while playing in place of injured starting linebacker Keenan Pili, took a recent visit to Colorado, but he didn't commit to the Buffaloes (at least not yet). 

According to On3's Steve Wiltfong, Herring has a visit to Kansas State set for this weekend. 

Penn State is another program that's also reportedly interested in Herring. 

While Herring led the Vols in tackles this past season, he wasn't expected to play a major role for Tennessee in 2024. He was going to see some snaps, but those snaps were going to come mostly as a depth linebacker. 

With Pili returning in 2024, plus options like Arion Carter and Jeremiah Telander coming off solid springs, it was a no-brainer for Herring to explore his options. He shouldn't have an issue finding more playing time. Right now, it's all about finding the right fit. 

Herring's younger brother, Caleb, is a talented sophomore edge rusher for Tennessee. He's not expected to follow his brother into the transfer portal.
