Texas A&M Lands Former Crimson Tide Cornerback Days After He Enters The Transfer Portal
Maria Lysaker-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas A&M Aggies understand the difficulties of going through a coaching change. After Jimbo Fisher was fired earlier this offseason, the program saw a lot of talent leave. Now, they are in a position where they can grab the talent from the portal. After Nick Saban retired, many Alabama players have entered the portal. Cornerback Dezz Ricks announced his commitment to the Aggies days after entering the portal.

Texas A&M Lands CB Dezz Ricks

Ricks didn’t play much in 2023, thanks to the glut of talent Alabama had in the secondary. However, the potential is there. He was a five-star recruit out of high school and was one of the top players available in the portal. Ricks didn’t stay there long. The Aggies needed to rebuild their secondary, and getting Ricks is a huge step forward. While the Aggies lost a lot of talent, new head coach Mike Elko has done a great job at replenishing.

Great Recovery

A month ago, many thought the Aggies would struggle in 2024. Ricks is now the 23rd commitment of the 2024 class and the eighth defensive back to join the program. Elko will have plenty of talent at his disposal in order to try to compete in the SEC. With Alabama going through a massive change as well, the conference seems a little more wide-open, especially with Texas and Oklahoma joining the fold.

Texas A&M wants to dominate the SEC. If they continue to collect this kind of talent, the program should be in the conversation for 2024 and beyond.
