Chiefs host athletic K-State TE Ben Sinnott on visit ahead of 2024 NFL draft
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are hosting Kansas State TE Ben Sinnott on Monday, April 8 for a pre-draft visit ahead of the 2024 NFL draft. NFL podcaster Billy Marshall posted an image from Sinnott's Instagram account, which showed him at the Chiefs' practice facility.

A First-Team All-Big 12 selection in each of the past two seasons, Sinnott appeared in 38 games with 28 starts during his three years in Manhattan, Kansas. He finished his career as one of the most decorated tight ends in school history, tying for the most receiving touchdowns by Wildcats tight end (10), ranking third in career receptions (82) and fourth in career receiving yards (1,138).

As a prospect from a school considered local, this visit does not count toward the Chiefs' top-30 visit allotment.

How does K-State TE Ben Sinnott fit with the Chiefs?

If the record numbers aren't enough to intrigue you, the athletic testing and tape do the trick with Sinnott.

At the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, the 21-year-old weighed in at just under 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds. He proceeded to post exceptional testing with a 4.68s 40-yard dash, a 40-inch vertical, a 126-inch broad jump, a 6.82s three-cone, and a 4.23s short shuttle. All of those numbers had him finish in the 90th percentile of the A to Z Sports Athletic Composite among tight ends dating back to 2000. He posted the best burst score (97.4%) of any tight end in the 2024 class and the second-best agility score (92.6%) to only CSU TE Dallin Holker.

Flip to the tape and you'll find a do-it-all player that excels just as much as a blocker as he does with the ball in his hands. He can line up anywhere you could possibly ask him to, in the backfield, on the wings, in line, on the perimeter, and in the slot.

It's easy to understand why there has been some recent chatter that Sinnott might be the No. 2 tight end in this draft class behind Georgia TE Brock Bowers.

The Chiefs have done a lot of work on this tight end class thus far, which tells you they're starting to think about life after Travis Kelce. At the very least, they need to find themselves a young and cost-effective option to help spell Kelce at certain points during the 2024 NFL season. That could help extend Kelce's career, but it also sets the team up for future success with a true understudy in place.

Given his skill set, there is little doubt in my mind that Chiefs HC Andy Reid can find a way to utilize Sinnott effectively in this offense. Even with Kelce, Noah Gray, and Irv Smith Jr. already in the fold.
