Robert Griffin III tells Mina Kimes the major concern Caleb Williams could face if the Bears draft him at No.1
Jason Parkhurst-USA TODAY Sports

There is no denying that Caleb Williams is going to be the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. And with the Chicago Bears releasing former starter Justin Fields through a trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers, they have paved the way for the USC star quarterback to take over.

However, there remain a few people within the industry who believe the Bears may not be the right spot for a talent such as Williams. After Deion Sanders, the next to raise his concerns about the young quarterback landing in the Bears is Robert Griffin III

During a recent appearance on RG3 and The Ones, ESPN’s Mina Kimes elaborated on how the Bears have to strengthen their offensive line to have Williams take over the lead, with the signing of prominent receiver Keenan Allen as well as improving the defenses.

I would feel really good about that if I was Caleb. Mina Kimes said

Robert Griffin III disagrees with the USC quarterback’s landing in Chicago

On the contrary, the former NFL quarterback says otherwise. Though Griffin agrees with Kimes on many lengths of that sentence, he holds on to that 1% he doesn’t agree with.

Mina, I agree with 99% of what you just said. My issue is the coaching staff and what they did with Mitchell Trubisky and what they did with Justin Fields. Ryan Poles comes out and says they want to break the cycles and they’re repeating the cycle right now of bringing in a new quarterback with a coach that’s on a lame-duck contract and then seeing how it goes. Robert Griffin III said

Griffin highlighted that there’s a high chance that if the Bears didn’t have a winning season the franchise would fire the head coach Matt Eberflus. And then Williams would have to go through coaches from coaches, which isn’t a good thing, in his opinion.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that RG III has opposed the USC quarterback’s landing in Chicago. Right after the franchise let go of the Steelers, Griffin asked Williams not to be drafted by the Bears and even if they did, he threatened to remain at USC
