Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera selected to All-Star Game by commissioner Rob Manfred

Albert Pujols made his first All-Star Game during his NL Rookie of the Year campaign in 2001. Miguel Cabrera earned his first trip to the Midsummer Classic as a second-year pro in 2004.

Pujols -- who will be retiring at the end of the 2022 season -- has 10 All-Star honors on his list of first-ballot Hall-of-Fame credentials, but has not been voted into the event since 2015. Cabrera -- who has said he will be retiring after the 2023 season -- meanwhile, is an 11-time All-Star, but hasn't been a part of the showcase since 2016.

Both legendary sluggers will be back on centerstage at the upcoming All-Star Game in Los Angeles.

Shortly after news broke of Cabrera's and Pujols' inclusion in the contest, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred released a statement.

The 2022 MLB All-Star Game is slated to take place at 8 p.m. ET on July 19 at Dodger Stadium.
