Braves' Freddie Freeman 'feeling great' while recovering from coronavirus

Braves' Freddie Freeman is "feeling great" after being diagnosed with coronavirus in early July, as his wife revealed her husband's health status on her Instagram.

Freeman was one of many Braves' players who have tested positive but while most athletes have been asymptomatic, Freeman's health suffered greatly. His wife Chelsea opened up about her husband's tough experience on Instagram.

"He has had body aches, headaches, chills, and a fever. He is someone who rarely gets sick and this virus hit him like a ton of bricks," Chelsea wrote. "We appreciate all the messages and prayers, please keep them coming for healing and protection for the rest of our family. Please take this virus seriously, wear a mask when in public and wash your hands frequently."

Even with this positive news, it's highly unlikely that Freeman will be available for the start of the season. The team plays its first game in a week against the New York Mets. To return, he would need two negative tests that are at least 24 hours apart, but even if that happens, they may not want to rush him back and risk his long-term health.

"It’s something we’re going to have to discuss," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "After the off day (Friday), we get in here and we’re approaching our last five (exhibition) games."

Getting Freeman back at all this season would be a huge boost for the Braves, as he is one of the best players on their team, hitting .295 with 38 home runs and 121 RBI last season. The team signed Yasiel Puig as a possible replacement for Freeman.
