Buster Posey will not commit to playing in 2020

Buster Posey is considering playing in 2020, but he hasn’t committed to it, either.

The San Francisco Giants catcher became the latest big name to admit that he has not yet officially decided on whether to play in 2020, and wants to see how things look in a few weeks.

Buster Posey is leaving the door open to opting out of the season. "Yeah. Definitely. I think there's still some reservation on my end as well. I want to see how things progress over the next couple weeks. It would be …naive or silly not to gauge what's going on around you."

Posey followed up by saying he'd be surprised if players answered any other way. Everyone is gauging how these camps will go and how the pandemic continues to unfold around the country. "There's no way we can give a hard line answer to what this will look like a week from now."

Posey makes a good point. MLB isn’t forcing anyone to make a decision right now, so there’s no reason to rush into one. Posey is right that a lot of players are probably planning on playing but taking a wait-and-see approach to things.

Posey is certainly not the only star player weighing whether to play or not. Some already think the league will have issues calling a champion legitimate with a 60-game regular season, but that issue will be even bigger if several star players don’t even play.
