Cardinals Reportedly Entertaining Offers For Brandon Donovan, Tommy Edman

The St. Louis Cardinals have kicked off their fire sale with a bang, acquiring four players who have jumped into the organization's top 30 prospects and a veteran reliever in their first two transactions.

Many expect Jack Flaherty to go next but it turns out there are some other notable names St. Louis would deal for the right price.

"The Cardinals are also entertaining offers on outfielder Dylan Carlson, and infielders Tommy Edman, Brendan Donovan and Paul DeJong," USA Today's Bob Nightengale wrote Sunday. 

Two days later, fuel was added to the fire.

"Cardinals have been active in trade conversations last night and this morning," MLB Network's Jon Morosi tweeted Tuesday. "They're willing to move multiple bats. Most frequent names mentioned: Paul DeJong, Alec Burleson and Dylan Carlson. Trade status of Tommy Edman, on the injured list with right wrist inflammation, is unclear."

For a long time it was assumed that the Cardinals trade deadline would consist of dealing impending free agents and possibly Paul DeJong but now it seems like St. Louis could make a big swing. The only notable young stars not mentioned here are Nolan Gorman, Lars Nootbar and Jordan Walker. 

The Miami Marlins were mentioned as a potential trade fit Tuesday, as they have a bunch of controllable and effective starting pitchers while the Cardinals boast an excess of young sluggers.
