As the Chicago Cubs have not announced their starter for Wednesday's series finale, it was vital for Craig Counsell not to have to dig too deep into his bullpen in Tuesday's ballgame. Luckily, starter Javier Assad answered the call and provided a nice encore to teammate Shota Imanaga's dominant debut.

Assad gave the Cubs plenty to work with as they reached above the .500 mark for the first time this season. If he can continue to provide the team with starts like this, it will provide some breathing room while the Cubs wait for the return of their ace.

What also helped was the hitting parade that the team put on display. Home runs by Seiya Suzuki, Christopher Morel, Garrett Cooper, and Cody Bellinger helped leave no doubt on who was winning tonight's game.

Most impressive was Seiya Suzuki's home run which had an exit velocity of 115 mph. So far the hardest hit baseball on the young 2024 season. Suzuki has been a man on a mission and it appears his hot bat made the trip north too.

The Cubs will lean on Suzuki's bat a lot this season as their biggest source of power from the right side. If he can continue this approach to the plate, the Cubs will have a lineup that should not be taken lightly.

After a disappointing first two games of the season, the team appears to be trending in the right direction. They have been tested extremely early due to injury and will continue to have to weather the storm if they hope to compete for a playoff spot this season.
