Diamondbacks recall Jake McCarthy, option Pavin Smith to Triple-A
Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

According to Nick Piercoro, the Arizona Diamondbacks have finally made the decision to call up Jake McCarthy from Triple-A. In return, Pavin Smith has been optioned to Triple-A Reno.

Recently, Jake McCarthy made franchise history with the Reno Aces. McCarthy did this by being named PCL Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks.

The Diamondbacks former 1st-round draft pick went on an impressive 15-game hit streak, boasting a remarkable 33 hits out of 72 plate appearances for a batting average of .458. His performance during this stretch includes driving in 14 RBIs, scoring 22 runs (with at least one run scored in every game), and hitting four home runs in his last seven games.

McCarthy was last with the Diamondbacks on August 8th.

Meanwhile, Pavin Smith, who was called up at the beginning of September, has seen his batting average drop to .188 after a 1-7 slump since reuniting with the Diamondbacks.

In total, since June 18th, Smith has had just one hit in his last 23 at-bats.

The Diamondbacks will face off against the Mets this afternoon at 4:10. Ryne Nelson is scheduled to take the mound for Arizona as he attempts to secure a series split for the D-backs.
