Diamondbacks sign two-time Gold Glove winner
Tucker Barnhart. Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to load the boat.

MLB insider Robert Murray of FanSided reported this week that the Dbacks have signed veteran catcher Tucker Barnhart in free agency. Barnhart will get a minor-league contract from the team with an invite to spring training.

The 32-year-old Barnhart played last season with the Chicago Cubs but was a two-time Gold Glover prior to that with the Cincinnati Reds (in 2017 and 2020). While his bat lags (hitting .230 in the last three seasons combined), Barnhart makes up for it with his defense. He is known as a great game-caller and pitch-blocker who has also thrown out 31 percent of would-be base stealers in his career.

The reigning NL champion Dbacks have made some noteworthy upgrades this offseason. They addressed their hole at third base by making a big trade and now are adding Barnhart as a strong potential backup candidate behind Gabriel Moreno.
