Dodgers' OF Kevin Pillar slated for surgery for fractured shoulder; will miss rest of season

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar for the rest of the 2022 MLB season. 

Last week, Pillar was injured against the Pittsburgh Pirates, sustaining a fractured left shoulder. On Sunday, manager Dave Roberts announced Pillar would undergo surgery, likely ending his season.

It's a tough break for Pillar, who had just joined the Dodgers' major league club after being recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on May 28. 

"I worked really hard to put myself in a position to be here," Pillar told the Athletic's Fabian Ardaya. "It was the place I ultimately wanted to be. It's something I dreamed of since I was a little kid, to put this uniform on and contribute.

"On a lot of different levels, it's very, very disappointing," Pillar continued. "It's very sad, frustrating. But also nothing I can do about it." 

Pillar played in only four games for the Dodgers this season, going 1-for-12 with a double, a walk and four strikeouts. 

Last season playing for the New York Mets, Pillar slashed .231/.277/.415 with 15 home runs and 47 RBIs in 124 games. 

The Dodgers inked Pillar to a one-year, $2.5 million contract ahead of the 2022 season.
