Dodgers place Edwin Rios on 10-day IL with hamstring tear

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed infielder Edwin Rios on the 10-day injured list on Friday.

Manager Dave Roberts said Rios suffered a right hamstring tear running to first base Thursday night against the New York Mets.

Roberts added the injury won't require surgery, and Rios would be out of action for "a handful of weeks."

The injury is a tough break for the 28-year-old Rios, who had recently earned a starting spot in the Dodgers' lineup.

"I've been playing a lot more, so routines change," Rios said last month. "More of a consistent routine (now), and it's been working. Just keep doing that as long as I can and keep it rolling."

Rios is having a career year in his fourth season with the Dodgers. He's already matched a career-high in RBI (17) and is just one long ball away from tying his career-best in home runs (8).

This season, Rios has slashed .244/.293/.500 in 92 plate appearances.

A sixth-round pick by the Dodgers in 2015, Rios made his major league debut in 2019. In 112 games, Rios has batted .291/.299/.492 with 20 home runs and 43 RBI.
