Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Nick Frasso revealed he suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder late last year that required surgery in November and is expecting to miss most, if not the entire, 2024 Minor League season.

Frasso shared news of his injury during DodgerFest at Dodger Stadium. He was among several prospects who participated in the 2024 Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour and were on hand for the sold-out event on Saturday.

The right-hander went a combined 4-6 with a 3.77 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 10.4 strikeouts per nine in 93 innings pitched over 25 starts for the Double-A Tulsa Drillers and Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers last season.

Frasso had a 3.91 ERA with 94 strikeouts in 73.2 innings across 21 starts for the Drillers before being promoted. Upon joining OKC, he proceeded to log 19.1 innings and post a 3.26 ERA in four starts.

“It was my first full year with the Dodgers organization, so I was still trying to get acclimated and get comfortable with everything,” Frasso said.

Although the injury has put a damper on his outlook for the season, it did not impact Frasso’s excitement to take in his first DodgerFest.

“People are having a great time. Interacting with fans is cool and overall it’s a fun time,” he said.

Brandon Gomes leaves door open for Nick Frasso

Although the odds of Frasso pitching in 2024 are slim, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes did not fully rule out the possibility.

“Nick’s rehab is going well. It’s kind of just going step by step, and making sure everything goes smoothly,” Gomes said during his media availability at DodgerFest.

“There’s a chance that he comes back some time at the end of the season. But at the same time, he’s so young and talented, we’re not going to take any risks in stepping on him and pushing him along if he’s not ready.”

Gomes added Frasso’s labrum tear was not significant and the Dodgers initially considered the path of a rehab process before deciding on surgery.

Frasso was acquired by the Dodgers in an August 2022 trade that sent Mitch White and Alex De Jesus to the Toronto Blue Jays. The Dodgers also received Moises Brito as part of the trade.

MLB Pipeline ranked Frasso among the top 100 prospects for the 2024 season. He was added to the Dodgers’ 40-man roster during the offseason.
