The Diamondbacks announced a series of roster moves ahead of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels. Outfielders Dominic Fletcher and Kyle Lewis were recalled from Triple-A Reno while infielder Pavin Smith and right-handed pitcher Brandon Pfaadt were optioned.

Following yesterday's game manager Torey Lovullo hinted there would be a roster move in regards to the outfield. With Corbin Carroll currently "day-to-day" after leaving the game with right shoulder soreness, the D-backs shore up their outfield depth.

Fletcher, 25, will begin his second stint in the big leagues. After making his MLB debut on April 30th, he hit .304 with two home runs and 13 RBI in his first 22 MLB games. In addition to the hot start with the bat, he also added some quality defense in center and right field. Since being optioned to Reno on May 26th, Fletcher is hitting .326 with two doubles, a triple, and a .815 OPS in 13 games.

Lewis, 27, will be back in the big leagues for the first time since April 9th. After being picked up in an off-season trade, he played in six games and hit .167 with a big home run against the Dodgers in the second game of the season. He missed more than two months with an undisclosed illness, then was optioned to Reno. In Reno, Lewis hit .308 with seven doubles, six home runs, and a .950 OPS. With the Angels starting two left-handers in the final two games of the season, Lewis could get an opportunity for at-bats this season.

Pfaadt, 24, has not had a good start to his career with a 9.82 ERA and three losses in his first six starts. After earning another opportunity with back-to-back quality starts in Reno, he got clipped for six runs in two-plus innings in a 6-1 loss to Tampa Bay yesterday. The D-backs top pitching prospect has struggled to consistently locate his pitches in his first two stints in the big league rotation. He'll spend the next 15 days with Reno, unless there is an injury to the rotation or bullpen. The D-backs can afford to wait until July 8th at the latest before they need a fifth starter.

Smith, 27, got off to a hot start after beginning the season in Reno, hitting .279 and a 892 OPS in the month of April. Since then, he's hit .163 with five home runs and a .564 OPS in 45 games. Adding in poor defensive value at first base and right field, Smith has been a below replacement level player with -0.7 Wins Above Replacement.
