Friars Make Trade With Marlins Involving Recently DFA’d Pitcher
USA TODAY Sports

The Padres have made a small move that might affect a team trying to earn a playoff spot. While the news has gone under the radar, the Friars traded left-handed pitcher Jose Castillo to the Marlins for cash.

This move comes just days after Castillo was designated for assignment by the Padres.

Castillo only appeared in one game this season for the Friars and was only able to record one out.

By the time he recorded his only out of the season, Castillo gave up four runs on two walks and two hits.

The 6'6" Venezuelan has spent most of his time in Triple-A this season with El Paso. In 22 games in the minors, Castillo had a 9.82 ERA and a 2.07 WHIP.

Now that he has switched teams, Castillo will continue to pitch in the minors. By being traded, Castillo will have a roster spot on the Marlins Triple-A team in Jacksonville.

This should be the first of many trades the Padres will be making in the next week. Since the team has not performed well, many are thinking that San Diego will be a seller.

Some names that could get moved include Josh Hader and Blake Snell . The craziest could potentially be Juan Soto

Whoever is dealt, however, will get a much larger return than Jose Castillo. The team will look different in a week, but the assets they receive could be important.
