Stanton making one change for 2024 MLB season
New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton. Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Giancarlo Stanton is making a change this offseason that he and the New York Yankees hope will help him for 2024.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Wednesday that Stanton is going to be lighter in weight in 2024. The idea is for Stanton to be more athletic on the bases and in the field.

Stanton’s fitness has never been in question; he looks like a bodybuilder. But maybe the 6-foot-6, 245-pound slugger has gone too far in that direction, and sacrificing some weight and strength for agility and flexibility can help him. And Stanton really needs to try something.

Stanton really has failed to live up to his contract since joining the Yankees. He batted just .191 with a .695 OPS last season. The Yankees need the 34-year-old to produce and stay healthy. He hasn’t done either of those things for the last two years, but maybe the weight loss plan will help.
