Jimmy Nelson Starts Another Rehab Assignment in OKC
USA TODAY Sports

If you've forgotten the name Jimmy Nelson, I don't blame you. The one-time dominant reliever hasn't pitched for the Dodgers since 2021, and we have no idea if he's going to return this season.

Nelson has already completed one rehab assignment this year, meaning he needed to accept them sending him on another. He did, and he's now back in Triple-A for his second rehab assignment with the squad.

In 2021, Nelson was dominant, sporting a 1.86 ERA in 28 appearances. That was coming off a 2020 season in which he didn't pitch at all due to a back injury.

Nelson missed the entire 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but was expected to be back this year. He was with the team in spring training, but struggled mightily, before winding up on the injured list.

Nelson is yet to return to the big leagues, but could potentially be nearing a return now that he's on his second rehab assignment. The Dodgers bullpen has been much better as of late, but with the struggles they had earlier in the year, they could use all the depth they could get.

We'll see how this assignment goes for Nelson, but hopefully we'll be seeing him getting another opportunity at the big league level sooner or later.
