Kyle Lewis is holding the Diamondbacks’ offense back

Despite a strong offensive performance by the Diamondbacks on Saturday, Kyle Lewis continued to struggle with a slump that has persisted throughout his time in the majors.

Following a challenging 0-5 night with four strikeouts, Lewis’ batting average for the season has plummeted to .157. Additionally, he’s amassed nearly three times more strikeouts than hits, with 21 strikeouts compared to just 8 hits.

Since rejoining the Diamondbacks on August 14th, the 28-year-old has held their offense down, going 2 for 18 (.111) at the plate and tallying 10 strikeouts.

But it has not always been this way for Kyle Lewis.

Not too long ago, in 2020 with the Seattle Mariners, Lewis earned the title of Rookie of the Year thanks to his .262 batting average coupled with a .801 OPS.

Moreover, during his time in the minor leagues, the talented outfielder showcased his abilities, making his underwhelming performance in the majors all the more perplexing.

This season with the Reno Aces in Triple-A, Lewis boasts an impressive .361 batting average and has belted 14 home runs, ranking second on the team in 2022.

In fact, his grand slam back on August 12th with the Aces led to him being called back up shortly after.
