Three potential offseason targets for the Milwaukee Brewers

Superior pitching, a breakthrough behind the plate, and a return to form in left field helped carry the Milwaukee Brewers to the NL Central crown, but the club will still have opportunities to improve this offseason.

Matt Chapman, 3B, Toronto Blue Jays

Milwaukee has seemingly had a hold at third base for some time now and the club's options at the hot corner didn't fare very well in 2023. Brian Anderson, who was signed as a free agent by the Brewers in January, struggled at the plate. Andruw Monasterio, whose contract was selected in May, was better but the club still felt concerned enough about the position to bring veteran Josh Donaldson in for the last month of the season. It's likely a position the Brew Crew will address this offseason.

One potential option is that of Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman. Chapman's value has long stemmed from his Gold Glove defense, but he's a career .240/.329/.461 hitter who brings some power to the position. Whether Toronto extends him a qualifying offer following the season remains to be seen, which could potentially impact his market, but should he hit free agency, there's a clear fit in Milwaukee.

Elvis Andrus, SS, Chicago White Sox

Willy Adames and Brice Turang are rightfully locked into the middle infield in Milwaukee. Adames is widely underrated across the league and Turang emerged as a reliable piece in the lineup, despite both producing less-than-stellar batting lines on the season. Adames is slashing .212/.306/.404 while Turang has hit .220/.289/.306.

The Brewers could benefit from adding a veteran like Elvis Andrus from Chicago to help bolster their bench. The 35-year-old had been a shortstop his entire career before adding second and third base to his repertoire this season. Over a 15-year career, he's batted .269/.325/.371 with over 300 stolen bases.

Ryne Stanek, RHP, Houston Astros

The bullpen has hardly been a concern for Milwaukee this year. Its relief corps collectively rank fifth in the majors in WAR, led by the consistently dominant work from closer Devin Williams. Adding to the group may not be a priority, but there's always room for improvement.

With a 2.87 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over the last three seasons, Ryne Stanek has been a key piece of the Astros bullpen the last three seasons. He also brings extensive postseason experience to the table, having made 17 appearances in the playoffs with Houston. The 32-year-old could be an interesting option for the Brewers on the free agent market this offseason.
