Three Rangers Prospects Take Big Jump

Three Texas Rangers prospects have made big moves up Baseball America’s Top 30 organizational prospects, released as a re-rank in early June.

The new ranking was based on a variety of criteria, as Rangers prospects moved up and moved down the board. These are prospects who were ranked in the preseason Top 30 and moved up in the re-rank.

Here are the three Rangers prospects that made the biggest jumps in the Top 30 and what factored into their new rankings.

INF Justin Foscue (+7, No. 4)

Foscue is already well thought of in the Rangers organization, and manager Bruce Bochy was impressed with his bat during Spring Training. He’s done nothing but enhance those credentials at Triple-A Round Rock. Through 57 games he slashed .277/.405/.488/.893 with eight home runs and 31 RBI. He’s walked 38 times and struck out 29 times, and if he keeps that ratio that will be a big improvement over his first two minor league seasons. The problem? Foscue’s path to the Majors is blocked by Corey Seager and Marcus Semien.

LHP Cody Bradford, (+10, No. 12)

Bradford has lit it up at Round Rock. He was the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Month for April and is 8-1 with a 1.82 ERA in 10 starts. That enabled his 10-spot jump. He’s with the Rangers at the moment and could be a spot starter down the line. He’s 0-1 with a 5.35 ERA in three starts with the Rangers, but he’s improved in each outing and is worth an MLB roster spot. He could also be a trade chip in July.

RHP Tekoah Roby (+15, No. 13)

The Rangers took Roby in the third round in 2020 and he’s steadily worked his way up the organizational ladder. He’s one of several highly-touted pitching prospects at Double-A Frisco, where he’s 2-3 with a 5.05 ERA in 10 starts. But he’s struck out 50 and walked 11, and that’s part of what got him promoted after spending 2022 at High Class-A Hickory. Batters are hitting .274 against him that has to improve. He’s spent most of June on the injured list with a shoulder ailment.
