Watch: Phillies rookie Weston Wilson hits HR in first AB

After 2,836 plate appearances in the minor leagues, Phillies rookie Weston Wilson got the call to the majors earlier this week. It took the 28-year-old rookie just one plate appearance to notch his first home run in the big leagues.

The Phillies rookie has done it

Wilson became the first Phillies player to homer in their first major league plate appearance since Marlon Anderson accomplished the feat back in 1998. The utility-man had success at the high minors with the Brewers before coming to the Phillies as a minor league free agent prior to this season. Wilson was able to make the memorable moment with his family in attendance, getting the start in left field today.

Wilson played in 100 games with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs prior to being called up Sunday. He was batting .260 with 25 homers, 69 RBI, an .884 OPS, and 23 stolen bases – the only player in the International League with 20 HR and 20 SB on the season in 2023.
