Watch: Rockies win crazy home opener on walk-off grand slam

It is probably going to be a long season for Colorado Rockies fans, but at least they had a thrilling start to their home schedule on Friday with a 10-7 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. The game concluded in the bottom of the ninth inning with what has to be one of the most exciting plays in baseball, a walk-off grand slam.

With the Rockies trailing, 7-6, third baseman Ryan McMahon stepped to the plate with one out and crushed the first pitch he saw from Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam deep into the right-field stands.

Have a look.

Part of what makes the long ball such an incredible moment is that it marked a point of redemption for McMahon.

The Rockies blew a 6-2 lead in the top of the ninth inning and the go-ahead run came via an error by McMahon. The miscue seemed poised to be the final straw in a gutting 1-7 start for the Rockies.

But McMahon was able to salvage the game with one swing of the bat and give Colorado its second win of the season. McMahon is one of Colorado's best power bats, having hit at least 20 home runs in each of the past three seasons and four of the past five seasons.
