Mets OF Kevin Pillar takes 94mph fastball to face
Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

It’s not what anyone wanted to see Monday evening in Atlanta. New York Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar was facing hard-throwing Atlanta Braves reliever Jacob Webb in the seventh inning at Truist Park in Georgia.

That’s when Pillar took a 94 mile-per-hour fastball right to the face. As you can see in the video embedded below, it was a scary situation between the two National League East rivals.

In absolutely stunning fashion, Pillar was able to walk off the field under his own power. As you might imagine, he was not able to remain in the game.

This is just a reminder of how dangerous an otherwise non-contact sports like baseball can in fact be. The reactions from Webb and his Braves teammates tell us that story.

Obviously, we’re hoping for the best for Pillar. No one wants to see that.
