Jorge Masvidal wants to lure Brendan Schaub out of retirement for a fight in his bare-knuckle MMA promotion, preferably against a major name.
“Gamebred” officially retired from competition after Gilbert Burns handed him his fourth loss in a row at UFC 287, but the two-time UFC title challenger has remained active in combat sports through his efforts as a promoter.
Masvidal initially got his start promoting fights with Gamebred Fighting Championship before shifting his focus to Gamebred Boxing, but this year he decided to combine two different disciplines with the creation of Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA.
Former UFC heavyweight champions Junior dos Santos and Fabricio Werdum are set to headline the upcoming Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA event in September, and Masvidal recently told Schaub he wants to see him compete on a future card.

Schaub hasn’t fought since he was knocked out by Travis Browne in 2014, and he immediately nixed the idea of taking on either dos Santos or Werdum in Masvidal’s promotion. “Big Brown” did seem open to the notion of fighting Derrick Lewis if he doesn’t sign a new contract with the UFC, and Masvidal was quick to jump on that idea.
“Derrick Lewis' debut in my promotion versus Brendan Schaub?” Masvidal asked excitedly. “Do you understand that people’s heads are just f***ing exploding?”
Both Tito Ortiz and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson were also brought up as potential opponents if Schaub were to sign on with Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA, but it remains to be seen if Masvidal is actually able to convince Schaub to come out of retirement considering the success he’s achieved as a comedian and podcaster in his post-fighting career.
