Demetrious Johnson Takes Gold At The IBJJF Masters World Grappling Tournament

Former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson took home a gold medal at the IBJJF Masters World tournament this week.

Johnson, fresh off his most recent ONE title defense against Adriano Moraes, has hinted at retiring from MMA soon. He's undecided on his immediate future in MMA and could potentially leave the sport this year.

As Johnson ponders his fighting future, he's passing time by competing at a major grappling tournament. The IBJJF Masters World tournament, one of the most prestigious of its kind, is going on right now in Las Vegas.

Johnson was competing as a brown belt in the Master 2 division, specifically aimed at contestants who are 35 or older. He earned a 10-0 win in the tournament finals, giving him a gold medal for his efforts.

Johnson is arguably one of the most accomplished athletes in combat sports after a long, legendary run as the UFC's flyweight champion. He holds numerous UFC records and will likely enter the UFC Hall of Fame soon.

The IBJJF Masters Worlds was Johnson's first major grappling tournament, with his last grappling appearance taking place almost 20 years ago. Despite the mileage over his career, Johnson continues to showcase his elite athleticism.

While Johnson's MMA future is uncertain, he seems to have found potential next chapter in submission grappling. If he keeps putting on performances such as at this recent tournament, he might not be done fighting just yet.
