Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has been left licking his wounds following an intense bare-knuckle battle with Mike Perry.
The pair of ex-MMA athletes went to war for the 'King of Violence' title in the main event of BKFC 56 in Utah this past weekend. "Platinum" was making his latest appearance in the sport he's excelled in, having previously beaten Julian Lane, Michael "Venom" Page, and Luke Rockhold.
For "The Underground King," meanwhile, Saturday's contest marked his sophomore outing in bare-knuckle boxing. Following his exit from ONE Championship, Alvarez made a successful BKFC debut against Chad Mendes earlier this year.
But it wasn't to be two wins in two for the ex-UFC titleholder. Despite a strong start, the damage he accumulated at the fists of Perry ultimately became too much, leading to a corner stoppage following the end of round two.
Now days on from the violent collision at BKFC 56, Alvarez recently shed light on the nature of the injuries that contributed to the decision not to send him out for the third round.
At the fight's conclusion, "The Underground King" had intense swelling around his left eye. According to a post from Alvarez's on X/Twitter, that was the result of not one, but two orbital fractures.
Confirmed 2 fractures in my left orbital , one was e refracture … Woulda been a thing of beauty to close out to the show for the fans , I felt great … this game is Wild and unpredictable as can be … it’s why I love it The Show goes on ! Love you guys ❤️

While the damage dealt by Perry was enough for Rockhold to abandon any future plans for a bare-knuckle return, that doesn't seem to be the case for 39-year-old Alvarez.
In fact, "The Underground King" is calling for a rematch against "Platinum," hopefully in his backyard of Philadelphia down the line.
