Ten most entertaining personalities in the UFC
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

A fighting organization is nothing without big personalities. Fans need something – or in this case someone – to root for, and it is much easier to pick sides when the fighters involved have traits that make you love or hate them.

Muhammad Ali’s controversial and entertaining personality was must-see TV in the 60s and 70s. It is the personalities of today’s fighters which also make the UFC must-see TV today.

Teruto Ishihara, Japan

Ishihara has made a name for himself in UFC as both a fighter and a social media sensation. His Instagram account might be even more entertaining than his fights, as he showcases his personality and his slightly insane side, claiming that he is less interested in belts, and more interested in making the “ladies go crazy."

Nick Diaz, USA

Diaz may be retired (he last competed in 2015)  but his mouth and outspoken personality have kept him relevant even after his fighting days were over.

Known for his unique striking style that prioritized punch volume over punch power, Diaz is also one of the best trash talkers in the history of the company. Give him a topic and a microphone, and Diaz will talk for hours.

 Clay Guida, USA

The thing you need to know about Guida that makes him unique is that he is a massive fan of the Grateful Dead and he spent a large portion of his career living in an RV.

While that sounds more like the lifestyle of a surfer than a professional fighter, it is that quirkiness that makes Guida more relatable than the average UFC star. Seen as an everyman in a lot of respects, Guida is one of the more likable fighters in the company.

Forrest Griffin, USA

Griffin could best be described as an odd duck. Not just odd, but maybe even flat-out weird at times, like when he sprinted out of the arena after losing to Anderson Silva at UFC 101. In a sport where many athletes have similar personalities and lifestyles, his presence is much needed and refreshing.

Griffen may have retired in 2013, but his Twitter page is still worth a follow if you want to be taken for an occasional mind trip.

 Brock Lesnar, USA

Lesnar has a sporting history that makes him unlike any other UFC fighter. While Lesnar seems to float between MMA and professional wrestling, depending on where the money is, there is no doubt that he is a big draw and an entertaining personality.

Lesnar has a menacing presence that few can match in either arena in which he competes, and while his brand of entertainment is on the serious side, he has a definite charisma that makes fans want to tune in.

Paul Miller-USA TODAY Sports

Donald Cerrone, USA

Known to fans as “Cowboy,", Cerrone may be winding down his career at the tail end of 2018, but his personality and desire to fight remains as strong as ever.

Given that he is a former bull rider, the cage is actually the safer of the two sports that Cerrone has taken interest in during his career. This shows in his fighting spirit as he agrees to fight dates as frequently as anyone in the company.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Georges St-Pierre, Canada

A multi-division champion (welterweight and middleweight), St-Pierre is widely considered one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in the history of the company. While his in-cage style is far from exciting, there is something entertaining about a fighting machine that lives to dominate his opponents when the gloves are on.

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Daniel Cormier, USA

Widely regarded to be one of the best MMA fighters of all time, Cormier’s brand of entertainment is ruthless, particularly in the way he goes about his business. He is clearly at home in the octagon, and fans love the way he fights with his heart on his sleeve, giving everything emotionally, every time he enters the cage.

The fact that Cormier was also able to slide into the booth as an analyst to share his love for the sport has also made him even more accessible and easy to root for.

 Khabib Nurmagomedov, Russia

Jumping out of the octagon to attack members of your opponent’s fight team immediately after you have beaten him is unmistakably wrong on many levels. Even so, it is also unmistakably entertaining! One could argue that it kept the 2018 bout between Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor in the mainstream news cycle much longer than it would otherwise have been.

The question now is how Nurmagomedov and McGregor approach their inevitable rematch, who will come out on top, and who will shock or amuse us the most.

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Conor McGregor, Ireland

Any doubt that McGregor is the most entertaining personality in UFC (love him or hate him) was put to bed when Tom Hardy revealed that he drew inspiration from the Irish fighter’s personality in Hardy’s portrayal of the Venom character.

Mystic Mac often has a flair for the dramatic in his press conferences and in his overall demeanor. McGregor also cross-promoted his boxing bout with Floyd Mayweather, the result being it was only the second fight of any kind to cross the 4 million PPV buys threshold.
