Donald
Cerrone never captured a major mixed martial arts championship,
but he made certain history would remember him.
“Cowboy”—who turns 40 on March 29—adopted a
wherever-whenever-whoever approach that made him one of the most
prolific competitors to ever grace the
Ultimate Fighting Championship stage. Cerrone ranks second on
the promotion’s all-time list in wins with 23 and third in
appearances with 38. After two failed attempts to strike
World Extreme Cagefighting gold, he fought for the UFC
lightweight crown in December 2015, suffering a 66-second technical
knockout loss to
Rafael dos
Anjos. Cerrone retired at UFC 276, where he submitted to a
second-round guillotine choke from
Jim Miller on
July 2. He closed out his career with a 36-17 record, with 27 of
those 36 victories resulting in finishes.
