Why Justin Gaethje Needs to Prove Himself
Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Justin Gaethje gave everything he could in his fight at UFC 254 against Khabib Nurmagomedov. Whether it was an array of takedowns, intense grappling, or hard striking, the Arizona native did everything he could to win the fight.

Unfortunately, he submitted in the second round, losing the fight to “The Eagle.” However, Khabib had glowing remarks about Gaethje in the fight, saying that, “he’s the fighter that hits the hardest” out of everyone he’s faced. The legendary UFC champion also complimented his right uppercut and left hook.

Granted, he also stated that Gaethje barely fazed him. But who can faze “The Eagle?” Anyway, the Northern Colorado alum has another fight at UFC 300 against Max Holloway. Here’s why Justin Gaethje needs to prove himself in the upcoming fight.

Justin Gaethje Has Another Challenge On His Hands

Max Holloway is no slouch himself. The Hawaiian fighter is known for efficient strikes and maximizing his opportunities. Dana White has called Holloway “probably one of the greatest featherweights of all time,”  who was even willing to take on Khabib on short notice.

In essence, “Blessed” is a guy with big… cajones. He’s going to take big risks against “The Highlight” and look for the big strike. Gaethje must prepare to go to war and use everything in his arsenal.

Holloway will be just as challenging as Khabib was at UFC 254. With a high fighting IQ and incredible striking ability, it offers Gaethje another challenge. Can he take him down and prove he’s worthy of being a noteworthy lightweight?

The Verdict

Overall, this should be an exciting fight to watch. Two incredible fighters capping off an epic card in Las Vegas will make for intense drama and thrills. This Saturday should have it all: the star power, the fights, and the knockouts.

For Gaethje, the time is now. He can make up for losing to Khabib by taking down another UFC legend. Such opportunities don’t come around often, so “The Highlight” shouldn’t “Lose Himself” in the moment.
