Former Raptor Jeff Dowtin Jr. Signs With 76ers
John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

Another former Raptor is joining Nick Nurse in Philadelphia.

The 76ers signed Kyle Lowry last month after he was bought out by the Charlotte Hornets.

Now, Philadelphia has signed Jeff Dowtin Jr. to a two-way deal, per Shams Charania:

Dowtin should be a nice addition to the 76ers. Nurse gave him some playing time last season as the 26-year-old appeared in 25 games for the Raptors. He was a solid contributor on both ends of the floor.

The Raptors opted not to promote Dowtin to a standard contract when he reached the maximum number of games on his two-way deal.

Toronto kept Will Barton, Thad Young and Joe Wieskamp over Dowtin who was ineligible to play in the Raptors play-in game against the Chicago Bulls.

Dowtin Jr. re-signed with the Raptors on a training camp deal in the summer, but then got cut before opening night.

He later signed with the 76ers to join Philadelphia’s G League team a month later.

In 17 games this year with the Delaware Blue Coats, Dowtin is averaging 17.1 points and 5.7 assists while shooting it 47.5 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from deep.

The Raptors could have signed Dowtin out of the G League at any point during this season but they chose not to go in that direction.

Dowtin now has a great opportunity to go out and prove himself to the 76ers and his former coach Nurse.

Next up for Raptors

The Raptors will continue their four-game homestand on March 3 when they host the Charolette Hornets.

The Hornets have lost 3 games, but they are 5-5 in their last 10.

Scottie Barnes is out indefinitely with a fracture in his left hand.
