Minnesota Timberwolves Reportedly Worked Out An 8-Year NBA Veteran
USA TODAY Sports

Elfrid Payton most recently played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season when he was a member of the Phoenix Suns.

That year, the veteran point guard averaged 3.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest while shooting 38.3% from the field and 22.2% from the three-point range in 50 regular season games (he also appeared in two NBA playoff games).

Currently, Payton is a free agent that is available to be signed by any team in the league.

On Wednesday, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that the 29-year-old has recently worked out for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Charlotte Hornets

Via Scotto's article on HoopsHype: "Eight-year NBA veteran Elfrid Payton has worked out for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Charlotte Hornets, league sources told HoopsHype."

Payton initially played his college basketball for Louisiana and was the tenth pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

In addition to the Suns, he has also played for the Orlando Magic, New York Knicks and New Orleans Pelicans over eight seasons.

His career averages are 10.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.7 assists per contest while shooting 44.7% from the field and 28.7% from the three-point range in 500 regular season games (Payton has also appeared in four NBA playoff games).

As for the Timberwolves (eighth seed), they are coming off a year where they lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA playoffs in five games.

Meanwhile, the Hornets (14th seed) dealt with injuries and missed the playoffs for the seventh straight season.
