Suns All-Star Chris Paul receives Kobe and Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award

Chris Paul of the Phoenix Suns is widely considered as one of the best point guards in NBA history. He recently earned a trip the All-Star Game for a 12th time, was the Rookie of the Year for the 2005-2006 campaign, has been named to an All-NBA Team 10 times and an All-Defensive team nine times, and he's a lock for the Basketball Hall of Fame.

On Sunday, he earned a brand-new award.

According to ESPN's Mechelle Voepel, the honor is for "significant contributions to the advancement of girls' and women's basketball, along with advocacy for the WNBA." The WNBA and Vanessa Bryant will present Paul with the award at the NBA All-Star Game Sunday night in Cleveland.

"I have seen firsthand Chris' appreciation of the WNBA and the game at every level for women and girls," WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said. "His ardent support of our game strongly reflects the legacy of Kobe and Gigi. He serves as a leader and role model for other professional athletes around growing the future of the game for young girls and all fans."

Despite currently nursing a hand injury, it was reported on Saturday that "CP3" may still play in the All-Star Game on Sunday. The contest is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m. ET.
